Volume 1 - House Wiring. You plug in your system without even giving it a thought the outlet is fine, right? Well, most likely it is not, even in those dedicated lines you run to the gear. Since electricians bid jobs and the lowest bid usually wins, these folks cut corners to quickly go from one job to the next. Time is money for these people and as a result things get done according to code, but not the best way for your system. Find out what to do and how to have this easily reworked, even without running a dedicated line.
Volume 2 - Line Filtering. You thought you were done in Volume 1 by cleaning up the messy wiring issues. But internal and external noise sources still exist and this tells you how to systematically identify and lower or eliminate their effects. Also covered is one commonly overlooked ground loop.

Each volume builds on earlier work. Volume 2 assumes Volume 1 tips are done, Volume 3 assumes tips in Volumes 1 and 2 are done, etc.
These five Volumes may tell you more than you want to know about power, grounding, and ground loops in your system. I have seen few articles as in depth as these and none as easy to understand.
One company has gone into business on this subject alone eliminating noise in large home video theaters. Before calling them, you could save thousand dollars by giving these a try.

I write stereo reviews for EnjoyTheMusic.com and Positive Feedback Online. That doesn't mean I know everything. It means I get to learn and try a lot of equipment. Phil is a friend of mine from the local audio club.
Phil is smart, kind, experienced, educated and open-minded. This really came across in his writing. He mixes technical phrases like "decaying energy content of the sonic pulse over time" with easy to view waterfall charts and pictures. Phil provides a lot of actually quite technical information for only a few bucks. Although he does include useful links, the math does get a bit heavy. Thankfully, Phil keeps it smooth and light enough to stay tuned.
After 30 pages though, I wanted to skip to the end; enough physics lessons, I just wanted to know which speaker cables I should consider buying or not. Unfortunately, a simple answer is NOT provided. Phil carefully explains why cable choice depends on speaker and music preferences. Still, I would like to see some examples of the resistance, capacitance and inductance in various brands of speaker cables. Next, Phil provides an excellent over-view of bi-wiring and bi-amping.
Then he continues with even more! Polarity and phase; hope he makes YouTube videos breaking this all down by topic. Plus, Phil explains about human audibility range, although he does NOT mention the equally important Fletcher-Munson curve.
Phil even adds a list of well-recorded classical, smooth-jazz and folk-rock music. Plus, he includes a set of some very useful links for additional information (alone, that is well worth a buck)!
All in all, this low-cost eBook is an excellent value for somebody who truly want to understand about the interaction of physics, electronics, electricity, loudspeakers and speaker cables. There is nothing quite like this eBook for tweaking audiophiles.
Finally, I did buy some bulk wire based on his advice and I am very pleased with the result. I feel I got extremely thought-full, educated-choice speaker cables at a very reasonable price. They compare very favorably to the thick $800 Coincident CST rattlesnakes I use on my bass, but for only pennies on the dollar. So this eBook provides a very valuable reference for anybody shopping for high-quality speaker cables.
